VanWell Masonry Seattle Restoration Division
The masons in the restoration division of VanWell Masonry are all trained
to not only understand the methods of restoration, but also trained in the ways
the masons of a different era built things. In this way they can best replicate
the method in which the structure was built. Materials used on older and historic buildings were quite specific in their purpose, something most current
“restoration” masons don’t understand. Using materials (mortar compounds)
that are meant for new masonry structures is not necessarily the right application. This is just an example of knowing the differences.
Understanding that in past generations, the waterproofing on the job was the combination of brick and mortar (which was designed to absorb and then shed water), unlike new design which is designed to be a waterproof envelope, we are more able to accommodate the intent of the original mason and not compromise or damage the building.
Our methods are the tried and true practices of the generations before us.
We might have an easier way to do it, but the skill involved in the application
is the same. We will not sacrifice your home or building in order to expedite
our paycheck.
